CLIMATE PICNIC Sembang-Sembang!

# To Change Everything, We Need Everyone #

In the early Sunday morning of 21st September 2014, nearly hundred of people attended “Climate Picnic”. This gathering is in-solidarity with the People’s Climate March, to pressure Malaysia’s leaders to take action on climate change now. This picnic highlights the importance of opposing climate change for the sake of clean air, water and healthy communities.

peoplesclimate_malaysia_HJW_05-600x399Jeffrey Lim, an advocate for cycling as the zero carbon transport, is showcasing his Kuala Lumpur Bicycle Map Project, during the gathering. His team has surveyed and mapped most parts of the city centre. He led a guided bike ride at the end of the picnic.

peoplesclimate_malaysia_HJW_19-399x600Youth of today will bear the brunt of the most nasty effects of climate change if we remain ‘Business-As-Usual’ (BAU). Ms Choy Kim Lee was sharing her time when she participated in a youth-led training workshop in New York City recently. It baffles her that the youth are now given the information and access to the decision making process.

World leaders, including YAB Najib Razak, Ban Ki-moon & President Obama, are heading to NYC for the United Nation’s summit on the climate crisis. The goal of the picnic is to draw attention to the climate crisis and urge leaders to find solutions to end climate change. But let’s not forget, we are already seeing and feeling the effects of climate change. Meaningful action is long overdue.

We hope the UN Climate Summit is the ultimate wake-up call for our leaders -- to let them know that our families cannot wait any longer for them to take action to end climate change. The scientists have been warning us for years that we must find alternative energy sources because fossil fuels are non-renewable, harmful to our health and damaging our environment.
